Behavioral Change
Wellspring professionals know that the only path to substantial and permanent weight loss is behavioral change. A summer at a Wellspring California provides intensive education and training on behaviors that scientific research has demonstrated to produce long-term successful weight control. We then use cognitive-behavioral therapy in group and individual sessions to bolster commitment and dismantle barriers to using these new skills permanently. After a summer at Wellspring, campers think differently and make much better decisions about diet and physical activity.

The clinical program includes:
- Intensive training on the set of behaviors that promote successful long-term weight control, according to peer-reviewed scientific research.
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy 4x per week with a trained therapist "behavioral coach" to overcome emotional barriers to success. This includes stimulus control, decision counseling, rational emotive therapy, relapse prevention, positive focusing, and stress management.
- Family Workshop where Wellspring clinicians help families develop transition plans from Camp to home.
- Required one-year After-Care program where campers continue self-monitoring online, monitored by and in communication with their behavioral coach from Camp. The After-Care program is free if campers complete it successfully.
